U.S. JUDGE ALLOWS LAWSUITS OVER
MONSANTO'S ROUNDUP TO PROCEED TO TRIAL
Business News 7-10-18 (Reuters) - Hundreds of lawsuits
against Monsanto Co by cancer survivors or families of
those who died can proceed to trial, a federal judge ruled
on Tuesday, finding there was sufficient evidence for a jury
to hear the cases that blame the company’s
glyphosate-containing weed-killer for the disease.

LETTER: HERBICIDE ON BIKE PATH
IS DANGEROUS, INEFFECTIVE
Opinion Providence Journal, RI, Jul 10, 2018
As a “frequent flyer” on the East Bay Bike Path, I was
horrified to see chemical application signs popping up
on the bike trail about three weeks ago. After several
phone calls, I was told that the Rhode Island Department
of Transportation was spraying for Japanese knotweed,
an invasive species. A phone call to the state Department
of Environmental Management confirmed that the product
used was glyphosate (Roundup), a known carcinogen,
& that it has been used on the bike path in the past.

Japanese knotweed is an invasive weed that can be seen in
many areas along the bike trail. It is tenacious, to be sure.
However, those who frequent the trail can tell you that it’s
obvious that spraying doesn’t kill it, because year after year
it comes back with a vengeance. The spraying, in my opinion,
does more harm than good. Cutting down the plants and
digging out the roots would be much more effective, and
not at all detrimental to humans, animals or the environment.

Glyphosate is a known public health issue, causing or
contributing to conditions such as allergies, asthma,
lung disease, liver disease, reproductive problems,
birth defects and cancer. It seeps into groundwater
and pollutes wildlife areas. It is a known contributor
to the decline in the pollinator population. So why is
the state allowed to spray the chemical in areas where
people, children, pets and wildlife will be directly exposed to it?

STOP BIG AG FROM USING UNTESTED DRUGS
ON FOOD ANIMALS OPP0SE ADUFA
The pharmaceutical industry is trying to get a federal exemption to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) drug approval process which allows a drug to be marketed for 5 years without demonstrating efficacy. The vague language would enable a wide range of drugs to forego the full application, assessment, and approval process. It could be used in millions of animals each year for five years. Tell your Senators that we must uphold strong testing standards for drugs used in food animals

PESTICIDE CHLORPYRIFOS LINKED TO
BRAIN DAMAGE, ADVOCATES CALL FOR BAN
(Beyond Pesticides, March 5, 2018) Even if you don’t live in California, chances are that you eat food that is grown there. Unless all that food is organic, some of it was probably sprayed with chlorpyrifos, exposing not only you, but also the farmworkers responsible for its cultivation and harvest. Farmworker families - especially children- who usually live close to the treated fields, suffer higher impacts than those living further away. Tell Governor Brown to ban chlorpyrifos now, for the sake of the children!

AN ACTION FOR RHODE iSLANDERS
TELL YOUR GOVERNOR:
KEEP KIDS SAFE. BAN CHLORPYRIFOS.
Chlorpyrifos is the most widely used pesticide in U.S.
agriculture, and exposure to it has serious consequences.
The EPA recognized the risks and banned indoor use of chlorpyrifos more than a decade ago. But chlorpyrifos is still sprayed on crops like corn, apples, strawberries and oranges, leaving families -- and especially children -- vulnerable. Tell
your governor to ban chlorpyrifos & protect our health today.
