LIB TALKS
**************************************************
**THE GREMLINS IN THE GROCERY: This month,
I feel the need to begin focusing on one of the most
prolific threats to our health in our society – plasticizers
contaminating our food. Plastic packages and can liners
are especially risky, it would seem, in the summer season
such as we are now experiencing, because these toxins
tend to leach out when subjected to heat.
Currently, the only such chemical getting widespread
attention is BPA – and we see lots of “BPA-Free” labels
on food cans and packaging. However, the BPA is often
replaced with equally or more toxic substances (such as
BPS). See a brief description of the problem & some
protective responses at this site:
TIP will be addressing this concern further during
coming months. Meanwhile, don’t forget these rules:
**Don’t buy food in cans or plastic containers –
go with frozen or fresh or in glass jars instead.
**Don’t microwave in plastic – use ceramic or glass
containers or plates. (Remove metal jar caps first)
Lib Note: Glass jars are also great for storage
To really move toward safer living, Clever Consumers
must speak up about this, refuse to buy the plasticizer
-poisoned products and demand healthy packaging
of anything we eat. TELL THEM! Purchasing power
works, if they know why you will or won’t buy!
Blessings, Liberty G

CALIFORNIA DECLARES ROUNDUP
INGREDIENT A CARCINOGEN
The Weed Killer Will Now Have To Carry
A Warning Saying It May Cause Cancer
www.consumeraffairs.com/news/california-declares-roundup-ingredient-a-carcinogen-070717.html
07/07/2017 California today officially listed glyphosate,
the key ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller,
as a chemical known to cause cancer under the state’s
Proposition 65 law. The widely used herbicide must now
carry a label warning California consumers that it can cause
cancer in people. It's the first time a governmental authority
anywhere in the world has issued a regulation based on
Roundup’s potential carcinogenicity. The state had earlier
announced its intention to do so but was delayed by a court
challenge filed by Monsanto, which manufactures Roundup.
The challenge was dismissed last week.

NEWS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
********************************************
HERE'S WHY MOST MOST OF THE MEAT AMERICANS EAT
IS BANNED IN OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES
Because the activities of Animal Pharma are so underreported,
few Americans realize that most of the meat they eat is banned
in other industrialized countries. One example is ractopamine,
a controversial growth-promoting asthma-like drug marketed
as Optaflexx for cattle, Paylean for pigs, and Topmax for turkeys
and banned in the European Union, China and more than 100
other countries. Also used in U.S. meat production is Zilmax,
a Merck drug similar to ractopamine that the FDA linked to
285 cattle deaths during six years of administration.
The European Union boycotts the U.S.'s hormone-grown beef.
The routinely used synthetic hormones zeranol, trenbolone
acetate & melengestrol acetate pose "increased risks of breast
cancer and prostate cancer," says the European Commission's
Scientific Committee on Veterinary Measures. "Consumption of
beef derived from Zeranol-implanted cattle may be a risk factor
for breast cancer," according to an article in the journal Anticancer
Research. For more on problems with U.S. meat production vs.
other countries, see:

DIET SODA: WARNING LABEL NEEDED?
www.anh-usa.org/diet-soda-warning-label-needed/
By anh-usa on May 29, 2017 Real Not Phony Food
Stroke and dementia too? Yes, you can add those to the
health risks of diet soda consumption. Natural health
advocates have known for quite some time that artificial
sweeteners like aspartame are dangerous and to be avoided.
They’ve been associated with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and
leukemia in men. These health effects aren’t all that surprising
when we consider that ten percent of aspartame is methanol,
which is converted to formaldehyde which, in turn, is converted
to formic acid—which is used to strip epoxy! According to
a new study, we can, in fact, add increased risk of stroke and
dementia to the list of dangers. Read the full story here,

35 CHEAP ORGANIC FERTILIZERS
TO POWER UP YOUR GARDEN
From Marjorie Wildcraft, Founder, The Grow Project
http://thegrownetwork.com/cheap-organic-fertilizer/
Home gardeners spend millions each year on fertilizer for
their gardens and houseplants. WOW! While many scientists
agree that chemical fertilizer is harming the environment,
organic fertilizer is draining our wallets. The good news is
that you can easily make your own fertilizers from organic
waste material and other things that you have around the house.
PEDIATRIC ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TOOLKIT
From our air and our water to the products we use on a daily basis,
our environment is permeated with hazardous substances. Yet very
few health professionals have been trained to help patients understand
how to protect themselves from environmental toxins. To address that
need, PSR and the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units have
just introduced the updated web-based Pediatric Environmental Health
Toolkit (PEHT) for health providers. The new PEHT, endorsed by the
American Academy of Pediatrics, is a free web app that offers
evidenced-based information for clinicians to educate parents about how
to reduce toxic exposures during well-child visits. It is user-friendly
on any mobile device or computer and provides evidence-based overviews
on health hazards related to air, water, food & products.
