**A STRANGE KIND OF GOOD NEWS IN TIP TALKS: We have
no obvious victories vs. toxics this month, but there is one
strange phenomenon to celebrate: More and more people
– and media – are learning about the bad stuff around us,
sharing that knowledge – and beginning the process of change
to a healthier life style and planet. The Monsanto trials are
spreading the news about pesticide damage, 5G radiation
is a hot topic, and more and more research and attention’
is being given to vaccine concerns. (Note: TIP does not take
an “Anti-Vaccine” position – just supports our right to make
our own choices about caring for our bodies. This month’s
article strives to help somewhat to address the complexities

TRIAL BEGINS IN SECOND MAJOR SUIT AGAINST
MONSANTO OVER ROUNDUP CANCER CLAIMS
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) 2-26-19- A jury in federal court in
San Francisco will decide whether Roundup weed killer
caused a California man’s cancer in a trial starting Monday
that plaintiffs’ attorneys say could help determine the fate
of hundreds of similar lawsuits. Edwin Hardeman, 70, is
the second plaintiff to go to trial of thousands around
the country who claim agribusiness giant Monsanto's
weed killer causes cancer.

SIGN PETITION TO UPDATE FLAMMABILITY STANDARDS
AND ELIMINATE TOXICS FROM KIDS CAR SEATS

Children’s car seats are vital for crash safety. Every child should
be properly secured in one, every time they ride. But, testing by
the Ecology Center shows that most (83%) children’s car seats still
have toxic flame retardants chemicals —chemicals that have not
been shown to protect kids during fires. A handful of companies
have innovated exciting, naturally flame resistant seats. But,
unfortunately, these seats are not affordable for most families.
We are urging the Department of Transportation to update their
flammability standards for children’s car seats. Despite over
45 years of this U.S. regulation, The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) can provide no evidence that
the rule provides any added fire safety benefit to children.
Exposure to toxic flame retardant chemicals is associated
with disruption of the hormone system, developmental delays,
obesity and cancer.
Please sign this petition urging NHTSA to update their
flammability standards to get toxics out of children’s car seats.

VACCINE CONFUSION

IS THE FLU SHOT REALLY EFFECTIVE?

There’s a lot of controversy over vaccinations. Which vaccines
are we talking about? Whose data is valid? What are the risks
(if any) and the benefits (if any)? So to keep things simple here,
I’ll be focusing on the yearly flu vaccine only. To avoid disputes
over sources, I’ll be pulling materials from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) or from other pro-vaccine sources.
I will have one necessary exception to this, but it will be clearly
noted in the text.

How Effective Is the Flu Vaccine?
Summary: In each of the past 4 flu seasons, we determined
that the flu vaccine did indeed lower your chances of
catching the flu. However, the actual reduction in risk
varied from 8.8% at most to 1% at the lowest. On average,
a flu shot over these 4 years would reduce your chances
of getting the flu by only 4.75%, but increase your chances
of spreading it by 6%. (Read the whole article for details

FROM EWG: TAKE ACTION ON CELLPHONE RADIATION
(This message came out in December, but is still very much alive!)
BIG NEWS: Congress has been demanding answers about the
safety of the 5G wireless technology being unleashed across our
cities and towns. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and
Rep. Anna Eshoo of California want the Federal Communications
Commission to prove that 5G technology is safe. Sen. Blumenthal
stated, “We need to know whether the radio frequencies can
cause cancer.” We couldn’t agree more.
Cellphone radiation has been linked to serious health risks
like brain cancer, sperm damage and changes in memory.
These health impacts alarm consumers – with good reason
– but tech companies and the government are doing little to
ensure that the technologies we rely on are safe. Instead they
are expanding their usage. We need the FCC to require these
telecom mega-corporations to test their technologies, like 5G,
for safety before they’re installed from coast to coast.
Current regulations regarding wireless safety were adopted
more than 20 years ago and have not been updated for the
latest generation of technology.
With 5G wireless technology being implemented in cities
from coast to coast, we need answers now. Activists and
researchers have been sounding the alarm for years, especially
for children’s health. A staggering 40 percent of American
children under the age of eight have their own tablets or
similar products. New research continues to reveal serious
health concerns associated with cellphone radiation:
· A new study revealed that cellphone radiation may
damage teenagers’ memory performance.
· Earlier this year, the largest-ever animal study confirmed
that cellphone radiation increases the risk of cancer,
including tumors in the brain and heart.
·In 2011, the World Health Organization declared
cellphone radiation a “possible carcinogen” based
on studies of long-term cellphone users.
Telecom giants have been testing their new technologies
on the unsuspecting public for long enough. It’s time the
FCC ensures wireless technologies are safe before they’re
released to the public.

HOW TO OPPOSE 5G “SMALL CELL” TOWERS

The telecom industry has switched from primarily installing
large, macro cell towers to deploying “small cell” towers (5G).
The following information is focused on the “small cell”, but
the “how to oppose” can apply to larger towers too.
The Federal Communications Commission and the federal
government have been promoting and supporting rapid
expansion of 5G. Some states have already passed laws
forcing them onto communities.
However people are pushing back and defeating installations.
In Hillsborough California 16 cell towers were denied.
In California SB649, which would have restricted cities
ability to regulate 5G, was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown.
The industry vision for 5G is to enable the Internet of Things,
Smart Communities, driverless cars (and more), where roads
and appliances (even baby diapers!) are embedded with
wireless radiation transmitters that connect to cell phones,
smart meters and the internet. The industry wants wireless
everywhere with “small cell” towers every couple hundred feet
apart! That meanscell towers in our neighborhoods, near
schools and parks, where we live, work and play. 5G would
use a combination of microwaves and millimeter waves, which
are scientifically shown to harm people and nature.
