**WE ARE HEADING FOR THE LAST ROUNDUP! (Thank Goodness!) Action vs.
the toxic Monsanto weedkiller & GMO companion is ballooning. Besides the trials already won by victims,
there are tens of thousands waiting for such, and lawyers advertising on TV,
eager to sue. And cities, states and
countries are beginning to resist this horrible stuff.
Join the efforts via the two actions in this TIP
TALKS.
**TWO COMMENTS FROM LIBERTY
G (While signing the
petition to
the EPA in the TIP TALKS Action section below.
1. I had my own personal experience with
Roundup.Heading into my little branch bank, I saw a couple of guys applying
something to the tiny grass section in front. When I went inside, the
room was filled with fumes from the application, and I got a terrible
headache. On my way out, I had to see - what is this stuff - and I looked
at the vat from which the substance was being taken. It was Roundup! That brief Roundup exposure resulted in my
having that headache for Four Full Days! That's toxic!!
2. Your agency's public image and respect is rapidly going down the tubes
as you continue to act for the profit of corporate polluters rather than
people's health and environmental safety.
You need to show that you are brave and decent enough to do the job for which
the public employs and pays you! This will bring you thanks and
admiration instead of the current low opinion that is rampant.
** EDUCATING YOURSELF & OTHERS, INCLUDING YOUR
DOCTOR!: Check out the Resources and
Clever Consumer info in this issue. Doctors often are unaware of concerns about
toxics - the new guide could be very helpful to them and their patients. And, the more you educate yourself,
especially on food concerns, the more you can use your consumer clout.
Blessings,
Liberty G

SEATTLE RESTRICTS
ROUNDUP!
NCAP is excited to share
some inspiring news! The City of Seattle has changed its classification of the
chemical glyphosate, commonly found in Roundup, as a highly restricted product.
It may now only be used on City property under strict control and as a last
resort. Effective immediately, City of Seattle departments who
engage in pest management – including Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle
City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, Seattle Center, Seattle Finance and
Administrative Services, and the Seattle Department of Transportation – have
been directed to avoid the use of glyphosate. In addition, an interdepartmental
team will update the City’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan, including
the list of approved pesticides, using a risk-reduction model.

*********************************************************
Protect people and
pollinators, restrict glyphosate herbicides now.
There are serious
concerns about glyphosate safety, both to people and the environment.
Glyphosate has been detected in rain and surface waters, and is more persistent
than previously presumed. There is evidence that glyphosate could cause cancer
in people, and with 280 million pounds applied every year on U.S. farm fields,
landscapes, and front yards -- the stakes couldn’t be higher. Please restrict uses of glyphosate until it
can be proven glyphosate is not harming people, pollinators, and the
environment. This includes restriction of application to genetically engineered
and traditional food crops, applications at schools, parks, and near homes and
waterways. Please protect our loved ones and natural resources from glyphosate
harm.
In an unbroken string of victories
for Roundup-exposed cancer victims, juries have ordered Monsanto (now owned by Bayer) to pay up to $1 billion
per plaintiff for acting with “malice, oppression or fraud” to hide the fact
that their glyphosate-based herbicide causes non-Hodgkin
lymphoma. Members of
Congress are taking notice, but so far, none have introduced legislation to ban
glyphosate. Please ask your Senators and Representative to step up.
TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to Ban Glyphosate!

EXTREME HEAT: WHEN OUTDOOR SPORTS BECOME RISKY
With so many students now playing on synthetic turf fields, the issue of sports
becoming a risk to their health in the heat is even greater. When the
outdoor air temperature is 86 degrees a synthetic turf field can reach 160
degrees. www.climatecentral.org/news/extreme-heat-when-outdoor-sports-become-risky-2019

NEW ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICS RESOURCE FOR CLINICIANS
From our air and our
water to the products we use on a daily basis, our environment is permeated
with hazardous substances. Yet very few health professionals have been trained
to help patients understand how to protect themselves from environmental
toxins.
To address that need,
PSR and the Pediatric
Environmental Health Specialty Units have just introduced the updated
web-based Pediatric Environmental
Health Toolkit (PEHWT) for health providers.
The new PEHT, endorsed
by the American Academy of Pediatrics,
is a free web app that
offers evidence-based information for clinicians
to educate parents about
how to reduce toxic exposures during
well-child visits. The PEHT is a free, concise reference
created and
peer-reviewed by experts
in the field. It is user-friendly on any mobile device or computer and provides
evidence-based overviews on health hazards related to air, water, food and
products. Learn more about
this new environmental
health resource here:

FACTORY FARMING & BIG
PHARMA
Any mention of factory farm corporations usually conjures up
names like Tyson, Cargill, Koch Foods, JBS, Perdue and, more recently,
retailer-turned-factory-farm, Costco. Some consumers will also think
names like Monsanto (now owned by Bayer), Syngenta (now owned by
ChemChina) and DowDupont—the companies behind the massive amounts of GMO grains
grown to feed imprisoned animals.
Even fewer consumers, however,
will think “Big Pharma” when they hear the words “factory farm.” Yet, the
pharmaceutical industry is an integral part of industrial factory farming.
Giants like Bayer and Elanco want us to think they’re in the
business of “animal health.” But what they’re really doing, is pushing drugs—on farm animals. www.organicconsumers.org/blog/are-factory-farmers-winning-antibiotics-war And as the recent news of Elanco Animal
Health’s proposed $7.6-billion acquisition of Bayer Animal Health reveals, a
dizzying number of relatively recent spin-offs is leading to monopolization in
the world of “Big Farma.”

** CLEVER CONSUMER (That’s you!) CAMPAIGN REMINDER:
TIP TALKS seeks to increase your consumer IQ & abilities. Remember, if you tell the supplier, retailer, or producer what you will or won’t BUY, they care! (Also share your knowledge with friends & family)

TELL GROCERY STORES: SAY NO TO CHLORPYRIFOS!
Chlorpyrifos, a
neurotoxic pesticide that can harm children's brains even in small doses,
shouldn't be on the produce you buy at your local grocery store. but it may well be. Trump's
EPA recently decided to protect this hazardous chemical and pesticide industry
profits instead of children's health. Chlorpyrifos can still legally be sprayed
on kids' favorite foods, like apples, peaches and grapes – despite the fact
that the EPA's own assessments found that the levels of chlorpyrifos found on
produce are unsafe. Although the
government may be solidly in Big Ag's pocket, it's not too late for grocery stores
to do the right thing. Join EWG and urge grocery stores like Safeway, Kroger
and Publix to ban produce sprayed with chlorpyrifos from their stores!
