LIB TALKS
*******************************************************
A PITIFUL PATTERN: Those of us who are independent
thinkers, aware of a variety of information sources, not
just
“mainstream press” or regulatory positions, are beginning
to notice a troubling, poisonous pattern.
A chemical that has been proclaimed “safe”, no problem,
turns out to be very unsafe and sickening. Then, it is replaced
with another, with the same safety claims. And then We
go from
DDT to Glyphosate. When that kills crops, it is
partnered with
GMO altered seed for “protection”. The same kind of
pattern
can be seen in many products – consider the TV ads that
alternate between praising the latest drug (along with a list of
nasty side-effects) and lawyers suing over the health damage
from previous fiascos.
TIP is following several of the latest “bad guys” and their supposedly
well-behaved replacements. For example, our research on BPA &
its alternatives is in progress. We’ll be reporting on
that in future
TIP TALKS. We thank Stephen Lester of CHEJ & Elizabeth
Overstreet of Wild Planet Foods for providing helpful info this week.
Meanwhile, life goes on with both good news & new
warnings. In
this TT issue, there’s some action on Lead in drinking water, EMF
awareness is growing. However, we need to nudge the NY Times
to be fair & balanced in its coverage of the concern. And, our medical
care system, dominated by Big Pharma & germophobia, continues
to ignore the role of chemicals in many ailments. These situations –
like complaints about reactions to vaccines and understanding
the Zika virus situation (with its pesticide connections) – are complex.
The truth is, mostly we don’t deal with angels & devils. Causes and
cures have many aspects – and people react differently to various
substances. My best “answer”, though none is perfect –
emphasize
supporting our wonderful human immune systems, through a variety
of means – and use medical options with care.
There is one simple, old-fashioned remedy in the news this week!

TWO STORIES ABOUT EMF CONCERNS
From www.takebackyourpower.net
***********************************
SMART METERS ‘NOT NEEDED’ AFTER ALL
FOR EUROPEAN POWER GRID
www.euractiv.com/section/energy/news/smart-meters-not-needed-after-all-for-european-power-grid/
There are other more efficient ways than smart meters to help
develop intelligent power grids, said industry delegates at the
annual convention of Europe’s electricity association Eurelectric,
held in Vilnius last week. These include quicker integration of
renewables, the development of energy storage and energy
demand response solutions, said the industry representatives.
The actual benefits of smart meters were also questioned at the
conference, as several member states have done previously.
Germany, for instance, has decided not to have a national roll-out
plan at all, running counter to requirements laid out in EU legislation.

NY ASSEMBLY APPROVES BILL TO ESTABLISH MANDATORY
TESTING FOR LEAD IN SCHOOL DRINKING WATER
http://assembly.ny.gov/Press/20160618/
Says Claire Barnett, of NY-based HealthySchools.Org::
“Lead poisoning is extremely harmful to young children and may
cause permanent brain damage. Schools in New York are not
currently required to test their drinking water for lead, or notify
parents or government officials of results.
The agreement will make New York the first state in the nation to
put a requirement in statute that mandates periodic testing of
drinking water in schools, reporting to parents and local and state
entities, and provides guidance for remediation to ensure availability
of clean and safe drinking water in every school. The state will fund
a portion of the testing and remediation costs and will
reimburse
these costs on an expedited schedule in emergency situations.
EPA’S NEW POLICY ON TESTING LEAD
IN DRINKING WATER
http://chej.org/2016/04/18/21573/
The fiasco in Flint, MI has forced a very important change in EPA’s
recommended protocols for testing lead in drinking water. In a memo
to state health and water administrators issued February 29, 2016,
the EPA reversed its prior recommendations on how to sample drinking
water.
The new protocols are a reversal of EPA's previous guidelines
which resulted in measuring lead levels in drinking water which
were significantly lower than the levels a person would be
exposed
to when pouring a glass of water to drink. We can thank the public
attention given to the disaster in Flint for this critically important
change.
Now we need to make sure that testing agencies across the country
follow this new protocol. Contact CHEJ at info@chej.org to obtain
a copy of this important memo.
