LIB TALKS

**THE BUSYNESS OF ACTIVISM: This month has been
even more hectic, despite being cooped up by the continual
cycle of snow/frigid, snow/frigid. There is a problem for many
of us concerned about our planet and people – so many
important concerns and causes. Well, that’s my excuse for
rushing tonight to put together the “February” TIP TALKS!
I haven’t time nor space to elaborate – but I know most of
you will understand. And, forgive me for any mistakes due to haste.
**TOO LONG, BUT SHOULD BE SHARED? I often receive
really good information that is not in a form for offering as a
quick paragraph plus link. It has occurred to me to ask if any
of you have particular concerns about which you might like to
receive an occasional, important E-Mail separate from this
newsletter. I invite any feedback on this idea, and think a
place to start would be making a list of some categories of
interest. For example, what about EMF (Electro-Magnetic
Fields, Wi-Fi, Smart Meters) concerns? (Example below)
Artificial Turf? Others?
**UPDATE ON GMO LABELING: Here in Rhode Island, there
is more energy moving in the effort to enact labeling legislation
than ever before. Next week will be the first committee hearing
– stay tuned for developments – or check out this web page
http://toxicsinfo.org/legislation.htm (Scroll down for some
“Talking Points)Meanwhile, much evidence mounts in
contradiction of. the GMO proponents “party line”. See below.

“NO SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS ON GMO SAFETY”
|February 18, 2015 In yet another setback for the
claims by Monsanto and other biotech giants that GMOs are
safe, a group of 300 scientists and legal experts have recently
found that there is no consensus on GMO safety, and that
claims to the contrary are misleading. See story at:

WIFI BANNED FROM PRE-SCHOOL CHILDCARE
FACILITIES IN A BOLD MOVE
BY FRENCH GOVERNMENT,
www.naturalnews.com/043695_electrosensitivity_wifi_french_government.html
January 29, 2014 (NaturalNews) The French National
Assembly has adopted a bill to limit exposure to electromagnetic
fields (EMFs) generated by wireless technologies - cell phones,
tablets, Wi-Fi etc. This bill will mean the following:
* A ban on Wi-Fi in all childcare facilities for children
under the age of 3.
* Cell phone manufacturers will have to recommend
the use of hand-free kits.
* A ban on all advertising targeting children under 14.
Children's EMF exposures are a particular cause for concern.
Studies show that children's brains can absorb up to three times
as much radiation compared to adults.

UPDATED SKIN DEEP DATABASE –
MOISTURE ANYONE?
Our spectacular 2015 winter means that many are slathering
on moisturizer, lip balm and lotion while wishing for warmer days
– and less dry skin! The trouble is, Chemicals with strong links
to cancer and endocrine disruption – think parabens, phthalates
and formaldehyde – are in many of the personal care products
we use every day. That’s why there’s no better time to check
out EWG’s Skin Deep® Cosmetics Database! With more than
71,000 products, Skin Deep® is the world's largest safety guide
to personal care products.
In 2014 alone, EWG’s research team added more than 1,100
new personal care products to their game-changing cosmetics
database. And that’s a good thing, because the average American
is exposed to 126 cosmetics ingredients every day – & none of them
are required to be tested for safety before they’re sold in the
marketplace. So go ahead, look up your favorite moisturizers,
shampoos, toothpastes and more to see how they score! See:
