THE US ACCESS BOARD “GETS IT!”

(Re: Fragrance-Free & More in Indoor Air!)

The Board believes that its new policy will provide a more comfortable environment and, in the larger scheme of things, help promote greater awareness of multiple chemical sensitivities. For further information on the Board’s fragrance-free policy, contact the Board at info@access-board.gov or call (202) 272-0080 (voice) or (202) 272-0082 (TTY).

PENNSYLVANIA SUPERIOR COURT RULES THAT

FRACKING NATURAL GAS FROM

A NEIGHBORING PROPERTY IS TRESPASSING

Tuesday, April 10, 2018 By Kristina Marusic, Environmental Health News |

Last week the Pennsylvania Superior Court issued an opinion that could have major ramifications for the hydraulic fracturing industry in the state: It states a company trespassed on a family's land by extracting natural gas from beneath their property while operating a fracking well next door.

USEFUL RESEARCH & WARNINGS

ONE IN FOUR AMERICANS SUFFER WHEN
EXPOSED TO COMMON CHEMICALS

www.upi.com/Health_News/2018/03/14/Study-1-in-4-Americans-report-sensitivity-to-chemicals/6881521041939/
STUDY - University of Melbourne research reveals that one in four Americans report chemical sensitivity, with nearly half this group medically diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), suffering health problems from exposure to common chemical products and pollutants such as insect spray, paint, cleaning supplies, fragrances and petrochemical fumes. (United Press International)

EVALUATION OF ORGANIC AND INORGANIC COMPOUNDS EXTRACTABLE BY MULTIPLE METHODS FROM COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE CRUMB RUBBER MULCH

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11270-018-3711-7

Recycled tires are often shredded for use in a variety of consumer-related products. The rubber so used may contain a number of compounds known to be deleterious to human and environmental health. We obtained nine samples of shredded tire material sold over the counter to the general public for home use, as well as six samples used for infill in synthetic turf athletic fields.

After thorough cleaning and grinding, samples were extracted with either organic solvent (dichloromethane), strong acid, or simulated acid rain, or allowed to degas passively. Compounds released by these multiple methods were then identified, and in some cases quantified. Solvent extraction yielded 92 separate compounds, of which only about half have been tested for human health effects. Of these, nine are known carcinogens and another 20 are recognized irritants, including respiratory irritants that may complicate asthma.

Strong acid extraction released measurable amounts of Pb and Cd and relatively large amounts of Zn. These three metals were specifically  targeted for analysis, and others may be present as well, but were unmeasured. Simulated acid rain extracted only Zn in significant quantities. Passive volatilization yielded detectable amounts of 11 compounds. Results demonstrate that recycled tire materials contain and can release a wide variety of substances known to be toxic, and caution would argue against their use where human exposure is like

URGENT ACTION: SNEAK ATTACK ON LOCAL PESTICIDE LAWS BY CHEMICAL AND PEST MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY IN FARM BILL PASSED BY HOUSE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE.

Help stop an extraordinary sneak attack on the right of local communities to protect people and the environment from pesticides in the Republican Farm Bill, passed by the Agriculture Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 18 on a straight party line vote. Send a letter to your U.S. Representative & U.S. Senators, requesting that they reject a provision in the House Farm Bill that prohibits local laws on pesticides:
