                          LIB TALKS
**SHORT BUT SIGNIFICANT FOR SUMMER: We are all
caught up at this time of year in vacation, travel, dealing
with heat & sun.  I’m also currently coping with a cold.
So, will try to make this month’s TIP TALKS brief but
meaningful.  It’s difficult, because there are some serious
and spreading toxic hazards in our lives.

**EMF ACTIONS - CALIFORNIA CELL PHONE
WARNINGS: &  RI FORUM ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE:
Disability related to EMF (Electronic Magnetic Field)
exposure, is growing, especially re: Wi-Fi and “Smart Meters
Berkeley, CA is warning people about cell phone radiation,
but in RI we have an odd situation in which EMF-sensitive
folks are unable to attend forums held by our Governor’s
Commission on Disabilities!  We’re trying to get GCD to
schedule one such forum at a non-Wi-Fi location.  If you
haven’t already (I sent an earlier alert to RI folk), take a
minute to support this sensible accommodation:
Contact GCD Staff  Alyssa Gleason  (401)462-0100,
alyssa.Gleason@gcd.ri.gov  or Christopher DeGrave

EVIDENCE GROWS ABOUT HAZARDS OF ARTIFICIAL
TURF!  We are receiving multiple messages about this from
Environment & Human Health (EHHI) in CT. The simplest way t
o keep up would be to bookmark their site and check periodically
on the latest news and research.  See:  www.ehhi.org/turf/

**PETRO-PERILOUS PLASTICS:  The current hot season is
a good time to remember – warmed-up plastics release their
petroleum-based & endocrine-disrupting plasticizers into food.
Avoiding plastics to the extent possible is an important step
toward health and sustainability.  See some helpful info below
from Healthy Child, Healthy World.

HOPE LIVES IN EUROPE:  Good news vs. Monsanto from
France is a reminder that other parts of the globe have more f
reedom from corporate control than we do.

Blessings, Liberty G

FRANCE BANS SALES OF MONSANTO’S ROUNDUP
IN GARDEN CENTERS, 3 MONTHS AFTER U.N.
            CALLS IT PROBABLE CARCINOGEN
            By Zoe Schlanger 6-15-15 Newsweek
www.newsweek.com/france-bans-sale-monsantos-roundup-garden-centers-after-un-names-it-probable-343311
After an arm of the U.N.'s World Health Organization (WHO)
identified the main ingredient in Monsanto's popular weed killer
Roundup as "probably carcinogenic to humans," France has
taken a step to limit sales of the herbicide.  On Sunday, French
Ecology Minister  Ségolène Royal announced that the government
would ban the sale of Roundup at garden centers in the country. "

          CELLPHONE ORDINANCE PUTS BERKELEY AT
                FOREFRONT OF RADIATION DEBATE
www.nytimes.com/2015/07/22/us/cellphone-ordinance-puts-berkeley-at-forefront-of-radiation-debate.html?_r=1
By Carol Pogashully,  July  21, 2015  New York Times
BERKELEY, Calif. This city has done it again - passed a measure r
equiring cell phone stores to warn customers that the products
could be hazardous to their health, presumably by emitting
dangerous levels of cancer-causing radiation.  Under the Right t
o Know ordinance, passed unanimously in May by the Berkeley
City Council, retailers are supposed to notify customers, starting
in August, that "you may exceed the federal guidelines for
exposure" to radio frequency radiation by carrying a cell phone in
a pants or shirt pocket, or tucked into a bra. The potential risk, the
warning continues, "is greater for children."(NOTE:  The reporter i
s skeptical about the concern & doubts the scientific evidence –
typical of mainstream media)

TELL COSTCO TO KEEP GMO SALMON OFF ITS SHELVES
http://action.fooddemocracynow.org/sign/tell_Costco_to_ban_GMO_Salmon_now/?t=1&akid=1586.94384.CSmbk_
President Obama and the Food and Drug Administration are
preparing to approve genetically engineered salmon for sale
in the United States. A recent scientific review from Canada
released last month found that GMO salmon are MORE susceptible
to disease and are not growing uniformly as AquaBounty predicted.
Help make sure that NO major grocery retailer in the U.S. will buy
and sell the world's first genetically engineered animal made for
human consumption to their customers.
